Battalion 2: Richard Thomas

Richard Thomas started his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Independent Fire Company of Westville, NJ in 1977, joining as a Junior firefighter. He served as a Lieutenant from 1981 to 1988 when the Independent Fire Company merged with the Union Fire Company and became the Westville Fire Department. In 1988, he served as a Captain and then was promoted to 1st Assistant Fire Chief from 1989 to 1997. He Joined the Tacoma Fire Company, of the Deptford Fire Department, in 1997. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999, then was promoted to Captain in 2002, and lastly was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2004.

Among numerous duties as Battalion Chief, Richard currently is assigned as the Maintenance Coordinator for all district equipment and vehicles. He is also assigned to the Training Division as the co-coordinator, and he is the the lead instructor for New Member Training. Richard also co-coordinates the NFIRS data entry, as well as coordinating all new member interviews. He also assists with the Safety Division as the accident and injury investigator. Richard is a member of the Gloucester County Fire Chief's Association serving on the Bereavement Committee.

Battalion 3: Chris Pfieffer

Chris M Pfeiffer joined the Almonesson Fire Company in May of 1976, as a junior member. Two years later he became a Class A fire fighter. In 1980 he was appointed as the company Training Officer, and in 1982 was promoted to Lieutenant, and served for two years in that position. He then followed that by two years serving as a Captain.
From 1986 until 1995, he served as 2nd and 1st Asst. Chief. In 1995 he was elected as the Station Chief, and served that capacity until being appointed as Battalion Chief in 2001 of the Almonesson and Blackwood Terrace Fire Companies (Battalion 3), where he still serves today.
From 1990 until 1996 he held the elected position of a Township Fire Commissioner. He presently is serving as the County Foam Task Force Coordinator.
